{"id":431,"date":"2024-05-09T14:13:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T14:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifestylerepository.com\/?p=431"},"modified":"2024-05-14T10:11:41","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T10:11:41","slug":"symphony-sambar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifestylerepository.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/09\/symphony-sambar\/","title":{"rendered":"Symphony  Sambar &#8211; Drumstick &#038; Brinjal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-background-dim\"><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"686\" height=\"386\" class=\"wp-block-cover__image-background wp-image-432\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestylerepository.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hq720.jpg\" data-object-fit=\"cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lifestylerepository.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hq720.jpg 686w, https:\/\/lifestylerepository.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hq720-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-cover-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-large-font-size\">&#8220;Bringing the beat to your plate: Drumstick and Brinjal Sambar \u2013 a symphony of flavors!&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>1 cup toor dal (pigeon peas)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 drumsticks, cut into 2-inch pieces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 large brinjal (eggplant), diced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 onion, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tomatoes, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2-3 green chilies, slit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon tamarind paste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon mustard seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon cumin seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A pinch of asafoetida (hing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 sprig curry leaves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons sambar powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon turmeric powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salt to taste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coriander leaves for garnish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cooking Dal:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Wash the toor dal thoroughly and pressure cook with enough water until soft and mushy. Mash the cooked dal and set aside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Preparing Vegetables:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and asafoetida. Saut\u00e9 for a few seconds until fragrant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add chopped onions and green chilies. Saut\u00e9 until onions turn translucent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add curry leaves and saut\u00e9 for another minute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add diced brinjal and drumsticks. Saut\u00e9 for 5-7 minutes until they are partially cooked.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Making Sambar:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Add chopped tomatoes to the pot and cook until they turn mushy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add sambar powder and turmeric powder. Mix well and cook for a minute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour in the tamarind paste and mix well. Add salt according to taste.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour in enough water to cover the vegetables and bring the mixture to a boil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Finalizing:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Once the mixture starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the vegetables are completely cooked and flavors meld together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the mashed dal to the pot and mix well. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simmer for another 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Your Drumstick and Brinjal Sambar is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or as a side dish for idli or dosa.
