Ingredients:
- 1 cup green gram (moong dal), washed and soaked for at least 30 minutes
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Water as needed
Instructions:
- Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker or a deep pan.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
- Drain the soaked green gram and add it to the cooker.
- Add enough water to cover the green gram.
- Close the lid and pressure cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the green gram is cooked well.
- Once the pressure releases, open the lid and check the consistency of the curry. If it’s too thick, add more water and adjust the seasoning.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
