Hot’n Cold Buttermilk

For hot buttermilk:

  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or butter (optional)

For cool buttermilk:

  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled and diced
  • 1 green chili, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)
  • Salt to taste
  • Ice cubes


For hot buttermilk:

  1. In a saucepan, heat the ghee or butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground turmeric, cumin, coriander, and black pepper. Stir for about a minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the buttermilk and stir well.
  4. Let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Taste and adjust salt if necessary.
  6. Serve hot.

For cool buttermilk:

  1. In a blender, combine the buttermilk, diced cucumber, green chili (if using), chopped coriander, and salt.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into glasses over ice cubes.
  4. Serve chilled.
